We offer comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological testing

Individualized insights based on clinical psychology general intellect (IQ), academic skills, memory and executive functioning, learning style, attention and focus, social functioning, mood and personality, and other emotional and behavioral challenges. 


Diagnoses for a range of addressable conditions, e.g., ADHD, common learning challenges (e.g., dyslexia), oppositional behavior, mood disorders (bipolar, anxiety, depression), autism spectrum disorders/Asperger’s, and other neurological conditions.


Supports for a range of personal wellness goals by providing the basis for academic or professional support, generating individualized personality and cognitive insights which impact work and relationships, identifying individual personality type and compatibility, understanding personal neurological risks and progression, and more.

You can virtually meet an administrative team member to get a general introduction to the practice and the testing and assessment process. We can cover approach and populations served, affordability, insurance and payment options. If you choose to move forward the next

This is a transparent process and is design to support, not "to judge" you or your family member. You will understand who, what, when and where we will conduct the assessments before proceeding.

BETR Care Clinical Team

John Calicchia, Ph.D.

 Dr. John Calicchia is a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of expertise in psychological testing and assessment. As Director of BETR Care, he leads the clinical vision for integrating assessments into wellness journeys. Dr. Calicchia completed his pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School, where he later served as a Child and Adolescent Psychologist and Clinical Fellow.


With a career spanning academia, private practice, and hospital settings, he is dedicated to empowering individuals with clear, actionable insights and making assessments accessible and transformative for all.

Sam Moncata, Psy.D.

Dr. Sam Moncata is a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of experience in psychological assessment and clinical services across the lifespan. He earned his Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford and completed both pre- and post-doctoral training at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School.


Dr. Moncata specializes in developmental, learning, and emotional concerns, with a deep commitment to helping individuals understand their strengths and challenges. He directs the Center for Lifespan Development in Waban, MA, and teaches in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at William James College, where he is an Associate Professor and core faculty member.


As part of the BETR team, Dr. Moncata is proud to deliver accessible, high-quality assessments that support clarity, insight, and action on each client’s unique path to wellness.

Janessa Carvalho, Ph.D.

Dr. Janessa Carvalho is a licensed psychologist with specialized training in psychological and neuropsychological assessment. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She also completed her predoctoral residency and postdoctoral fellowships in the Clinical Neuropsychology Specialty Program at Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School.


She works with adults to explore concerns related to changes or concerns about attention, learning, memory, behavior, and/or mood. Her approach to testing is collaborative and compassionate—designed to help clients feel understood while providing clear, actionable insights.


As part of the BETR team, Dr. Carvalho is proud to offer thoughtful, high-quality assessments that are accessible and centered on each client’s unique wellness journey. Outside of her clinical work, she enjoys doing anything outdoors, reading, and spending time with her family.

Marie Moncata, Psy.D. (Joining soon, Postdoctoral Fellow)

Dr. Marie Moncata is a psychologist with advanced training in psychological and neuropsychological assessment. She specializes in learning differences, child and adolescent mental health, and neurodevelopmental conditions. Dr. Moncata works with individuals across the lifespan to evaluate concerns related to attention, memory, learning, and emotional functioning. Her warm, collaborative approach ensures clients feel understood while delivering practical, actionable insights.


As part of the BETR team, Dr. Moncata is passionate about expanding access to high-quality psychological testing and connecting clients with the right resources for growth and support.


She earned her BA from the College of the Holy Cross and both her MA and PsyD from William James College, with a concentration in Children and Families of Adversity and Resilience. Her training includes placements at McLean Hospital, MGB, Wayland Public Schools, and Rutgers Behavioral Health Care.

Clinical advisors

Dr. William Bryan, Ph.D.

 Dr. Bryan received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology, specializing in child and family psychotherapy, from George Washington University. His clinical experience includes a private psychotherapy practice, work as a school psychologist, and roles in inpatient psychiatric care, university instruction, and counseling services leadership. 


In addition to his clinical background, Dr. Bryan has deep expertise in personality research, having trained under Dr. David McClelland at Harvard. His work has centered on applied motivation and competency research, with a focus on distinguishing top performers, particularly leaders. As head of The Bryan Group, he now applies these insights to help individuals, teams, and organizations overcome challenges and enhance performance through evidence-based, personalized strategies.
